(i have been able to play notes on qwerty before but cant now - i thought you just had to shift-click the actual pulv to play, but I havent been able to get it working of late)
as for controlling the knobs and buttons with automations... on a qwerty you can not. must be a midi device and even midi ''emulators'' do not work.
hey i think you should check out somthing called chillstep its like dubstep just a calmer less bouncy version i think u would do very well at makeing that
