I really like the effort here. The sounds are pretty cliche but tearout seems to be really popular
01:44
that vocal sample was way too long before the drop. cut that sample literally down the middle and use the first half for the first drop and the second half the for the second drop.
Also idk what
01:52
is doing there, it should come after the part at
02:16
-
02:55
. literally switch those two parts of that song so that the part starting at
01:52
starts at the end of the
02:16
-
02:55
section.
yeah giving it a second listen, I suppose you're right. There's no actual rules for the intro or anything, it's just a common thing you will notice about some songs. Of course the artist is always free to pursue their vision however they see fit. Please take all my advice with a grain of sand and remember it's all love <3
I personally love long cinematic intros, so I don't think that the long intro is a bad thing, I just don't think it transitioned to the buildup very well imo
Lastly, the intro to the song before the build is too long. Dubstep traditionally has the first drop occurring at or between
00:49
and
01:10
at the latest. this should give you a good 8-10 bars to make a nice simple intro and build which keeps listeners' ears engaged and keeps the pace of the track moving forward (after you take out 60 seconds, you only have about
1:30
-
2:00
left of a track, and this will be used up quickly especially when the draft starts getting legs)
