So one of my friends asked me to see his melodic dubstep chords and I checked them out and gave some crit. That gave me the idea to make this little tutorial thing to help some peeps out.

SO basically every thing in this track is from virtual riot's "Studio Time 4" video, which is up on youtube. It has a lot of other cool stuff in it, so go check it out.

I broke the sounds up into different parts so you can hear the differences and how they com together.

I'm not gonna go to much into detail about sound design since you can just open this up, but basically what you will need to make your big chord stacks is:

A detuned saw

A clean stereo saw

A lead (in this case I used zerod's "Angry Saw" preset)

A bass and/or sub (I did not use a sub because I felt the bass was strong enough)

This is a very basic form, a lot of times I will add more synths (especially with ultiband compression), like a mono saw or maybe a square sound. But this is basically how you make your chord stacks.

For drums you bassically just wanna have a kick and a snare on a 2 x 2 beat. In this track I did not use anye hi hats/cymbals/crashes, but those are often helpful.

In between the chord hits I had a few sounds; a pluck and some bass hits. I'm not gonna go into too much detail because the plucks have a very bad sound design and the basses are just samples, but if you want to know more about making basses I could do something for that in the future.

Anyhow that's basically it, I didn't master this but I might do something with that in the future. Let me know if this was helpful, and if there are any topics in music you want elp with let me know and I'll make another one ofthese.
