i don't think you place enough value on timbre. imo this has lost potential because of the instruments you used. what im saying is you need to find sounds that really complement the melodies that are being played. i personally dislike the FM-ish sounds you have going on because they feel empty and robotic to me.
study how other artists use timbre and how that effects the emotional output of the music.
