Boosting frequencies is the same as making them louder. When you use filter resonance to boost bass, you really are creating "loudness that pronounces the bass".
One of the things you need to learn about bass-heavy music is that it's not the loudness that pronounces the bass, it's the frequency and the layers. This is two levels of bass, with a slope to maximize the right frequencies. I don't know what headphones/speakers you're using, but you don't have to blow up your speakers to have good bass
