yeah sure, they'd need a wash tho......or two.......just to get the stubborn stains out. Na the nsa wouldn't know where your mic is, they're concerned where theirs are ;) Most lappys have the mic at the top of the screen next to the camera, or in the hinge somewhere. Sometimes next to the track pad. Chuck on your head phones and just tap your laptop in random places, you'll find it. Apparently it's best to cover the whole thing, make a kind of bubble....
Ah are you recording directly into AT? Didn't know you could do that. Anyway strange tip I got from a guy in a band. If you're recording using your laptop, get a pair of tights and stretch them over the whole thing. Then find a quiet spot (as few neighbours as poss etc.) stand about a meter and a half away and up the volume when you're singing. Sounds weird but apparently everything comes out cleaner.
I have a shure pg57 guitar/amp mic but no vocal mic... for this I used the condenser mic built into my laptop, has pretty good response but if it sounds off key it's because AT doesn't let you listen and overdub like some software does. I might do new vocal takes later but doubtful :)
