Average joe here, just to tell you that synths (my area of knowledge is centered in Heisen, I'm terrified of Pulv) are a bit more about a special type of vibe mixed with balance of sound
I think you should take it bit by bit to learn how each of the sections of the synthesizer works
I.e.: which wave sounds like which, what waves make what sound together, how loud each wave should be individually, etc.
I hear he knows his stuff, and though I haven't watched any of his tuts I figure he explains himself very well. So if certain things don't work out, more tuts and practice are going to work in your favor (learning to make 'what I want' out of 'what I used to know')
