Simply being able to turn up my volume a bit helps a ton with how the percussion fits with the rest of the sounds. That does a lot for the clarity of the track!
This is close to brilliance! The reverb is causing problems with overcompression, especially with the pads at
1:00
. There are a couple options to get around this: bring down the reverb, or set your mix lower. The overall volume will be quieter if you go with the latter, but that's fine if it helps improve the clarity of the track. There are also some groove issues that pop up here and there, mostly relating to how the percussion samples gel with the rest of the sounds...
The track is at its strongest when one sound dominates the space, and I think that's probably because the volume is so high in the mix that when multiple sounds in the same frequency range play at the same time, the sound gets a bit muddied. Backing off just a touch should do wonders for this track.
These can be fixed with a little attention to how the kick and hats interact with the synth sounds. The composition is simply lovely. Really well done harmonic leading, and the middle section especially stands out.
