Just find your effect style and ur bass style i personally focus on heavy distortion and detune also use 3otts i also use lfos

Also, I just seem to have a specific focus on dubstep basses, I've found out that I really like simpler basses with melodic potential. I can't really explain it, but there's a certain tonality/progression that attracts me to tracks.
