The intro is a bit messy but as usual I've got bored of working on this so it's a bit short. Too much compression? Tried to get a really powerful drum-beat (Arche style, eheh).
that helps a little :0 actually well explained i have been using it to keep from clipping on my kick s and bass lines the while trying to maintain the volume lol am i on the right track?
Compression is used to make everything at the same volume level. Generally by compressing a track or a noise it makes it sound louder (as all the quiet parts are made louder) so you can use it to make everything sound larger, although sometimes you can over compress a sound and it will sound too squashed. Also you can side-chain using it where you add a channel from (for example) a kick drum and every time the kick comes in the sounds you've put through the compressor will lower in volume. This is what Daft Punk and Justice do for just about everything (listen to 'one more time') for an example).
