the limiter gets rid of clipping but restricts the sound. the original had WAY too much bass on it and that was restricting all of the other sound. i agree i could probably turn the limiter on this because it isnt clipping that much. the original is the original though and i think the overloading of the limiter sort of adds to it. this was just to eliminate all of that crowding.
What I'd recommend: get rid o DAT compression cause you don't need it. Also I'd lower the volume on the entire track just a little. What I'd also recommend is mixing with the limiter off. The limiter gets rid of clipping but when you use the limiter the songs true sound comes out. When the little light on the limiter turns red, that's how you know the sample or synth is too loud. It's an ear training thing. You Just gotta get used to it.
