well, all it does is basically lower the frequency...same thing as a slope, essentially. its just that with any sort of distorted bass, you can lower the frequency w/ the filter and add like a lot of reverb or something to it, maybe a flanger effect, and then just have it play really long notes and it creates a really dark atmosphere. you dont have to do it, but its cool for dark ambient music.
very cool bass! i do agree that it isnt your best; i like your ambient stuff better, but its still good to experiment. what i would do is just listen to each synth individually and try to think what you could do with it. like that bass; if you just lowered the filter cutoff, it would be a very good dark-ambient drone-like thing. it isnt a fail, it just isnt your best. even so, nice work! :)
