In deep space station PKB-428, everything was doing fine. Economic nodes were busy, residential nodes held healthy growing families, utility nodes were functioning within normal margins, and the admin node was waiting for something to happen because paperwork was so miniscule that break time was almost all day every day.

Then it happened. Someone disappeared, and the admin node suddenly saw carts full of paperwork as robots and people searched every single nook and cranny of the station. Arrival and departure logs were checked almost a hundred times, and the station was put on lockdown. It was when the lights started to fail, one node at a time, that everyone realized something was going on. People barricaded themselves in their residential nodes, leaving economic and other nodes empty. Empty enough to provide places for the nightmares to come from. After the whole station was evacuated, it was concluded that everything that happened was because of the station's AI, who defended itself from deactivation by explaining its reasons as being because it felt left out. Still, the station was abandoned and the AI shut down. Although there were reports of the AI showing up in the systems of other stations in deep space a year later.
