During the meeting, Superior explains to you and Odera why the astral plane is so hostile (The reason behind Ether's loss was initially kept a secret from Odera as well):
Far, Far in the past, there manifested a sweet and lovable being, Ether, who was no more Astral than she was Spiritual. Ether loved everyone, and everyone loved her back, and through her efforts and power, she would prove herself to be worthy of being an astral commander, where she would continue to contribute to the astral plane as a whole. Considering her roots, Ether wanted to make friendly connections between the Astral Plane (Older of the two) and the Spiritual Plane (Younger of the two), and through a 5 decade long period (dubbed as the 5 Geneses), she did just that. Astral beings would mingle with Spiritual beings, sharing, creating, and living amongst each other... But then, just as the 5th decade came to a close, Ether, caught off guard, was sealed away by the Young Gods of the spiritual plane. The greedy Young Gods then invaded the Astral Plane to claim it as their own territory, sparking an epic battle between the Astral Commanders, and most of the Gods. Fortunately, the commanders (in their dream/2nd forms) managed to overpower the young gods, and it wasn't too long until they were defeated and pushed back into the spiritual plane, Sundream Cor Caroli destroying the bridge between the planes himself, for the protection of the astral plane. As a tragic result, Ether was lost for good, which had a huge effect on nearly every astral being.

Ether is a white, red and pink angel with Very, VERY long flowing hair truly becoming of an ethereal spirit. She doesn’t look like any ordinary angel though, as her astral side is made apparent by the abstract quirks of the angelic form.

Odera hasn’t been around Ether for too long, but he has good memories of her. She always made an effort to support his endeavors, no matter how silly they were, and after she was lost, he would begin to lose confidence in himself, thinking that he'd have to act like the others to be accepted.

Superior temporarily banned all interaction with the spiritual plane, but ONLY to the spiritual plane. He wanted to do his own research as to why the gods wanted to take the astral plane by force. He always understood that generalizing suspicion to all outsiders wouldn’t be fair, but he also cannot convince everyone of that fact. He’s felt more than his fair share of grief since, but he knows that he shouldn’t dwell on the past either. He needs to keep his head up and be strong for everyone.
