I use punchy kicks but I up the volume on my melody and mix it very specifically based on how I want my kicks to interact with the beat.
In this case I would recommend doing that. Has a nice swing to it though.
If raising the gain on your melody only causes you to clip then just lower your Low on the kick by like a decibel or two... Maaaaybe 3-- if its not in neutral.
you'll be surprised how much texture the lows and highs have alone. Mids work well with Wurlitzers and Rhodes pads/synths with a lot of mid feedback. For me, if you just isolate the Highs you get the same melody with high gain feedback, like crackling that I use for Texture. and sometimes a mid frequency is just barely outside of the lows.
