can someone tell me how to properly use these synths and some tips and tricks?
I'm trying to learn the pulv, hb, and space, and I want to know how to properly get the sounds I want out of them, so can someone tell me, or straight up teach me in the studio pls?
Yeah, there's some basics to synthesis that you'll want to understand. Additive and subtractive synthesis are a great starting point that the pulv embodies well!
Basically the idea is that you're either adding harmonics (like by moving from sine waves up to triangle, saw and then square) or taking them away (by moving the filter or adding an LFO to change the signal over time)
The next thing you'd want to understand is dynamics:
For synths the "ADSR" is the area you're most concerned. This means Attack (the time it takes for a signal to go from silence to it's full volume) Decay (the time it takes for a signal to settle) Sustain (where the final point of decay settles) and Release (the time a signal sticks around after a the note is done being sustained)
Since all of these are time values, they can be applied to other parts of your synth to change the sound over time. For instance the classic synth bass sound is a decay value applied to the filter. That way the high frequencies start off the sound but the lows are all that remain at the end. This can give it a "plucky" sound which emulates an electric bass played in a staccato fashion.
The last part of basic synthesis that you'd want in your tool belt is LFO's:
This means "Low Frequency Oscillator." The idea is that your normal Oscillators (or osc on the pulv) are all set to speeds that generate audible sounds. But the LFO generates speeds that would be so low they couldn't be perceived by the human ear. They can be perceived in other ways, though!
You can use the LFO to affect the filter so that it goes up and down at whatever speed you want. You can also affect the tune of a regular osc so that it has a "wobble" or a vibrato effect to it. You can also slap an LFO on some PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and really mess up a square wave!
when it comes to the space, its your lead, or it can be a really wet Bass, I would add a detune to the space and then use the... oh the distortion to give it that lead feel. but for the Bass, add reverb, tons of it too, lol, any other questions????? I'm happy to help
I know two tricks (but not really with the synths) and I can tell you in the studio, but without camera pls. I don't do face reveal
