Realistic Sounds

Any advice on how to make synths sound more realistic/tangible? Reverb kind of works, but it's still not quite right, and I don't know what else to try.

      I don't know how to describe it, but sounds that sound physical. Not mimicking real instruments but sounds that sound like they could be played by, for lack of a better word, imaginary ones.
