I'm not an expert in that genre, but the "yoy" effect is typically accomplished by putting your source sound through a bitcrusher and varying the cut-off frequency of the synth's filter. You have to fine-tune the bitcrusher's sample rate and the synth's filter cutoff to find that sweet spot. Actually, the way to get a "yoy" sound is to use a formant filter
you can use the bit crusher but then go and automate a low pass and it will come out with something cool
