How do I create a good stereo image for my pad?

I'm relatively new to sound design, and I'm trying to make a smooth ethereal pad. The only problem is that it sounds far away and sits forward in the mix. I'd like it to feel more immersive like it's around me and not in front. What are some options for achieving this?

Just to make sure, when you say "forward" you mean "centered"? Because "it sounds far away and sits forward" seems contradictory. First I'd try to make the sound in the synth as simple as possible. One oscillator better than two. Then try the StereoDetune pedal, it works well to create stereo spread without muddying the sound. Also, try stereo delay with the Pulsar rather than reverb. Reverb will push the sound into the background. If you have to use reverb, try a relatively long predelay time to create separation between the dry and wet sounds and lower the volume of wet signal until it's barely perceptible.

Sorry, I meant centered not forward. It's MUCH better now though. Thank you!

what if it's just a jumble of sounds loaded with reverb?

that's something I've been doing a lot recently. I got logic like a month ago and haven't been on audiotool for a while. it's definitely a great way to go if you're looking for atmosphere
