Well it depends, if you're talking about the sound from something like a TB-303 then I ABSOLUTELY agree that's what it was based off of. Whenever I generally think of a 80s bass synth though I think of something that tends to have noticeable unisono that makes it sound like something else entirely.
nah i don't think i was thinking of those acid basslines. i think i was thinking of a bass sound from a particular keyboard synth. it really had that "fuzzed" quality to it. the sound that reminded me of a fuzzed bass guitar was really just a unisono'd, filter-enveloped saw wave with some noise in it, but i'm thinking that they may have taken inspiration from the sound of fuzzed bass guitars when making the sound

Oh I get what you're talking about. Yeah they do kind of resemble electric basses in a way
I wonder how you could get a bass to sound like the synth hm
by "filter enveloped" i meant "filter enveloped before overdrive" so there's still high-end from that distortion effect, like with what a fuzz pedal does

This is explaining what I mean in a really dumb way, but I wonder what people were trying to emulate when those kinds of "bwow" basses became popular
"bwow" like acid basses? if you mean the TB-303, it's been said that the TB-303 was originally supposed to be a sequencer used for substitute slap bass melodies, but it failed as that, and then some nerds tweaked around with it and found the "acid bass" sound

a fuzz pedal
That's it?
kinda pretty much, except a fuzz pedal doesn't produce unisono
by "filter enveloped" i meant "filter enveloped before overdrive" so there's still high-end from that distortion effect, like with what a fuzz pedal does
