With his crystal clear voice, his great compositions and his production skills, no one would be surprised if Icebox became a big player in the international Pop Music scene. Or is it the dancing that is missing? You can tell us, Box.
One thing is clear: we have here a young, up-and-coming multi-talent who has already more than earned his place in our Featured Artist annals.
I'm a 17 year old student/producer taking a Diploma for Music and Audio Technology in Singapore Polytechnic. I've been on Audiotool for about one and a half years and my favourite style of music is mainly EDM and Future Bass, or any genre that can incorporate my vocals inside ;)
Which artist has had the most influence on you (on and/or outside Audiotool)?
Outside of Audiotool? I'd say Porter Robinson and Illenium. Those 2 are my biggest inspirations. But inside of Audiotool? When I first started out, I was influenced a lot by Vulkron. I've always dreamed of becoming a renowned producer like him on the platform.
Who would you like to work /collaborate with on and outside Audiotool, and why?
In Audiotool, I would 100% want to collab with rai over all people. He's been my number 1 idol and although he doesn't have a particular influence over my style of music, I would really love to learn so much from him!
Which film/game would you like to produce the score for or contribute a song to?
If I could choose a film? I'd pick Passengers. I feel like the end credits song could have been a very nicely-fitting future bass song that would fit the vibe of the whole story even more. Futuristic sounds and hints of nostalgia.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Yes, I have. Writer's block is very challenging to overcome, but my best advice would be to do absolutely nothing! You won't get anything done by forcing ideas out of your head. If you can't come up with anything, it's because you're not inspired. Carry on with life as usual, and wait for those magic little moments to come in. It's hard, but if you adopt patience, you'll produce quality over quantity ;)
What has helped you the most on Audiotool to improve and widen your musical horizon?
My group of mentors, and friends from the community. From sim, to Fluent, to Velocistar, I've had many different people critique my work and even show me how to make it better. The community really helps in showing you different ways you can develop your skills, as well as other avenues you can take towards one idea into different genre alternatives.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
I really love its "complex simplicity". It's a very silly oxymoron, but it's self-explanatory. In my opinion, the learning curve for Audiotool is much more shallow than most other DAWs, which will help you get the basics down immediately. But once you start experimenting you find out that although the devices are simple, you can do a lot more with the DAW than you originally expected when you test your creative limits and push its boundaries!
Your message to the community:
My message to the community? Help each other grow. It's what happened to me, and look where I am now! If you're an established producer, explore more genres and mingle with people to make friends, and learn production from each other. To those very experienced producers, help usher in a new generation of Audiotool artists that can help expand and develop this platform and make it known to all corners of the world! Remember, this DAW is only as strong as its community!
We asked Icebox like the other featured artists to compile their five most influential Audiotool tracks and their own flagship track for the Edition Audiotool album. You can enjoy the individual tracks or listen to the whole album below.
Track #1:
confused by naswalt & sim
As an aspiring vocalist, and with very few vocal tracks on Audiotool at the time, I thought I had found a hidden gem among the thousands of tracks on the site when I listened to this song for the first time. Naswalt has definitely been my biggest inspiration and idol when it comes to Audiotool vocals, and this track was what first encouraged me to sing my very first vocal tracks in the Home Office competition.
"Come Alive by Pixus Decay"
Pixus Decay is a very overlooked producer on the site. His sound design, melodic creativity and ability to create emotional stories through his songs is something not a lot of people recognise, but I’ve always dreamt of recreating. And this track is a prime example of that.
SIREN was one of the first few Asian artists that I met on the site. We instantly became close friends once we met and even popped out collabs here and there. I met OFV through SIREN, and both taught me so much about Audiotool. This track of theirs is an example of the kind of vocal tracks I want to be able to make. A nice fusion of multiple genres.
Tim’s mostly known for his energetic and funky mixes, but this track of his is really what got me into making music about the not-so-pretty moments of my life. This beautiful soundtrack, with clean guitar lines from none other than naut, is definitely a musical journey that you will not regret taking yourself on.
Velocistar has been my biggest mentor throughout my entire Audiotool journey so far. From mixing, mastering, to sound design, this man has literally shown it all to me. This underrated track of his is a literal epitome of the kind of mixes I’m inspired to learn to produce.
If I had to pick my best work out of all my tracks? This one, hands down. And if it weren’t for sim, who decided to answer my calls for a guitarist in the comments of the Home Office competition, this wouldn’t have been possible. It’s a classic track of mine, and I have to say, my most unique. There’s a reason why this is my top track in Audiotool, Spotify and YouTube, and if you haven’t listened to it yet, I’ll let the song speak for itself ;).
So happy to see u here man ! You totally deserve this. I remember noticing you and your sister's beautiful voices with tracks like Found you, and since then you've improved so fast in creating quality tracks on AT !
Thanks for the selection of my track and for the kind words ;)
Thanks so much tim! Youve definitely been another one of my main inspirations and got me into funk lately! And thanks for being the first person to remix a track of mine! Truly honoured
im hella late
Congrats on the feature Icebox! :D
