Melancholy is what you probably expect when you read his artist's name. Melancholy is also superficially what you get but packaged with danceability, funkiness and even euphoria. Euphoria for the listener or dancer because Melancolist's synth lines, inspired by the pioneers of electro music, are heartbreakingly beautiful. Also, for the musicians among us, he conjures a warm and analogue sound from the Pulverisateur, which is unparalleled. That sound suggests a candelabra-lit room with a wall-high modular system rather than headphones on a laptop on a terrace above Paris' rooftops.
Hey! My name is François. I have the most Fench name ever. I live in the suburbs of Paris. I'm passionate about sport, adventure, movies, cycling and music of course.
I like all styles of Electro music (Techno, Trance, Experimental, Dub, Dance, EDM, Hardcore, Synthwave, House, ...) but also classical music, Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Rap,..
And Calzone is my favorite. So fat and good …
Describe the style of music you produce
I mainly produce Techno music.
I like to mix emotions and sad melodies, techno rhythms and the unexpected sounds of modular synthesizers.
I like to think that my music could be used for movies. Therefore my melodies are often more elaborate than the rhythms, to set a vibe.
What is your musical background and when did you start making music?
I come from a non-musician family.
But I have always been fascinated by Electro music. I'm obsessed with the synth's sounds. I like working on it like a "sculptor" who shapes and transforms materials with filters, tunes, volumes, glides and modulations.
I started making music with Audiotool, after hearing about it in an article, in a magazine called "Science et vie junior". I took a look and I listened to Infyuthsion's track : "Grimebot"
I immediately wanted to reproduce those wonderful wobble basses. It started like this more than 6 years ago.
What is your favorite Audiotool device and why?
I love to be surprised by the devices that I use, but I think that my favorite tool would be the Arpeggiator It gives an organic aspect and it randomizes the way to compose. Coupled with a Pulv it can be really sick. And some automations are enough to create diversity in a melody.
But I also use Pulsar very often, or Delay, Quasar and Compressor.
What is your favourite trick in AT/What technique do you always use?
I use Machiniste for the samples, but I manage each sample separately with individual output in order to add effects, specifically EQs and layers for the drums.
I also like plugging a few synthesizers to one single Arpeggiator to layer notes. And sometimes, plugging an Arpeggiator to another Arpeggiator to create conditions for more musical accidents.
Have you ever had a writer's block? If so, how did you deal with it and what do you recommend to your colleagues?
Keep listening to music, go to concerts, analyze your favorite tracks, open projects you like on Audiotool, be curious about music you listen to, make featurings, experiment and even if you are not playing the best music you can at least train about technical aspects.
What do you like most about Audiotool? Is there anything you would like to suggest?
The thing which is really unique about Audiotool is that it allows you to compose live with other people, on the same project. It's a great value and we should develop that to improve our community.
Also the modular structure on the desktop is very pedagogic and visual : you can fully understand where the sound signal goes. I think it’s quite different compared to the more “mainstream” DAWs.
I also think we can develop more synthesizers for more possibilities. Of course, that's easier said than done :)
Your message to the community:
Produce the music that you enjoy, but also the music you've never listened to before and want to hear. I think that's the key to expanding your own universe.
And share it with me :)
I hope I will have time to come back one day and support you again.
Thank you
Absolutely unexpected, but well worth the feature. I absolutely love his music. I'm glad he's getting the attention and recognition he deserves. But... ..It looks like you have no choice but to start posting music more often! :/
@Melancolist
Congrats! Thanks for choosing my tune as well :)
