Some new features users might appreciate:

  • a variety of new high quality real instrument sounds via the new Gakki device
  • You can change the pitch of an audio region without changing its length via the new audio editor (i.e. easy sample pitching)
  • Also in the new audio editor: use warp markers to snap sections of your sample to your grid/beats but keep it sounding natural
  • Drag and drop samples from your computer directly into your project or timeline
  • Drag devices directly onto a cable, device or even a timeline track to patch it into an existing effect chain
  • Record audio directly from your microphone or audio interface using the arm button on a timeline audio track, don't forget to calibrate the latency first!

"This is an early beta version and updates are released regularly, which means tracks may not always remain accessible. If you’re working on something you want to keep, please download your track as a WAV file."

I want to clear up that this means tracks made in beta could be deleted if we need to make breaking changes to the new format before the full release.

For now, clicking "Publish" will just download a WAV to your computer. Please feel free to share it here though!

The studio looks so beautiful oml

2026-01-20 03:25 · 2026-01-20

I like the studio a lot and the ability to record vocals directly is a lot more helpful. but also a few things are that every once in a while the studio will turn white and I will have to reload it. Also when you open up the visual with the wires it’s harder zoom in and out, as well as a glitch with a wire where it looked like it was pulled to the right for some reason (not too big of an issue). Other than that, the new Gakki is insane and I love it. I just feel like to make it even more vocal friendly there could be some autotune/vocal plugin cus I’m out of tune and also that would be cool for rappers or singers. Also one last thing is that u should be able to merge samples audio tracks like in the og studio because it gets kinda messy. But it is an amazing new studio and w gakki

We're not escaping it, it's just a big feature and we're still working on finishing some of the basics. Gakki was actually a relatively easy addition, so we thought it was the right move to add it in beta.

Maybe we could reduce the scope the Sampler for initial version, then add more complex features like sample zones, modulation etc. in future. That way something could be delivered sooner.

But anyway not making promises, bear with us for now! :)

2026-01-26 03:50 · 2026-01-26

My review of this Beta studio is pretty critical. When I originally left, it was due to performance issues and the lack of visible, meaningful updates. But this new update, after plenty of tweaking and stress testing, seems worse overall at the moment. The biggest issue I noticed immediately is the feel. Opening the studio should make me think “Audiotool.” Instead my first thought was “BandLab.”

Partnering with Spitfire LABS is a great move. However, this new layout may not be one of the better ideas to come from a-records. It truly feels like I’m staring at a collection of compressed windows. We’re missing the simple, organized, spacious feel that the current studio offers. The option to open and close panels helps, but not in a way that actually solves the problem.

Because this layout is so fundamental, it’s unlikely that feedback alone could result in major change. However, there is one possible solution: pop-out windows. This would allow real organization and spacing for users with multiple displays. Unfortunately, for single-monitor users, especially Chromebook users, this may not help much.

Performance also needs significant work. I’ve tested this beta studio across multiple VMs (virtual machines aka simulated computer environments) using various hardware profiles and drivers. While not perfect, this does let me test performance across many system types.

I've found that, even for a beta, performance is on par with the old Adobe Flash Player version of Audiotool. Stability varies heavily by system specs, and sometimes not even that. For example, my personal computer has very capable, high-end hardware. Yet it struggles far more with this beta than the average Jo's computer does with the current Audiotool Studio.

I sincerely hope major improvements are made to this beta studio, otherwise we risk long-term damage to the Audiotool community. We've always looked for betterment. Not augmentation. This has the opportunity to be a great update, given receptiveness is heavily involved.

The limited space due to many panels open in desktop-on-top is also an issue that's been raised internally and we're working on a solution. Both in panel behaviour and overall sizing of UI elements. Opening panels in new windows is also planned.
As for performance, yes there's plenty more to optimize and I hope we can get it to a much better state before launch. If you have any useful data for us from the testing you've conducted feel free to pass it on via feedback form.

ChatGPT's summary: The reviewer argues that the new Audiotool Beta Studio feels worse than the current version, with a cramped, BandLab-like layout that loses Audiotool’s identity and organization. Performance is inconsistent and sometimes as bad as the old Flash version, even on high-end systems. They warn that without major changes, the update could harm the Audiotool community despite its potential.

2026-01-28 11:40 · 2026-01-28

I personally really agree with @alchemind on most points (i dont really know anything about performance). I feel that the unique thing about Audiotool is that unless you're a longtime user who understands everything, there's always something new you can try. You don't need to use every feature for a banger track, and every tweaked parameter is a little bit of extra spice in your song. Also, I find that old Audiotool gives very oldish and analog vibes, especially with the Machiniste, Pulverisateur, and the stereo speaker that has to be hooked up at all times for audio. It feels like you're working with the inner complexities of your sound, and actually messing with it. Now, the new beta makes you feel much more distant. It feels like there's a display screen on everything, and that everything is being worked on through an interface, which gets rid of the "working with the sound" element. However, I feel that all the new features, particularly plugin support, are a brilliant idea. The inbuilt mixer is also a brilliant idea, and I'd love if our current AT is put on another part of the website. Maybe legacy.audiotool.com? All in all, I feel this is a brilliant update that just needs some tweaking, particularly in the UI sector. Also (this is just a personal opinion), the new notes segment (I think that's what they're called?) looks pretty Garagebandy. The current one is a lot more compact, so you can scroll through a lot of tracks much easier. Please don't take this as a very angry and negative one-star review, as I actually do think this is a good update for Audiotool.

2026-01-28 14:51 · 2026-01-28

You’re absolutely right that some tweaking is still needed. We’re at the very beginning of the open beta, and feedback like yours is exactly what helps us refine things. We take impressions like this seriously and let them flow directly into the ongoing UI adjustments.

Regarding the idea of a separate legacy version, that’s not something we’re planning at the moment. The focus is on bringing everything forward into the new environment and improving it there with the community’s input.
Also, about the look and size of the note regions, you can change their appearance using the percentage zoom control at the top right of the timeline or region area. That might already make navigation feel a bit closer to what you’re used to.

Since this is a beta, we want to take this chance to again encourage the community to share detailed feedback wherever possible, as the level of detail directly affects how precisely we can improve the experience.

Is there any way to set up a custom location in the booster for LABS? It looks like the option is available (since there is a default path button), but I somehow couldn't find a way to change it. I have almost everything from labs downloaded, but on a different drive. Don't want to have to slap everything back on my overfilled C.

The path shown there is editable. You can simply click into the text field and manually enter the file path to your LABS library on the other drive. There isn’t currently a browse or folder selection button, so the path needs to be typed in directly.

I'd actually like to hear an answer on this too. I'm working on an album and instead of finishing each song sequentially, I'm rotating through them, so I have several tracks that are half finished and I really don't want my work being gone when this update comes out. I've tried loading my tracks into the new studio but it botches them since it just tries it's best to recreate the tracks with different tools. Plus it would still be a ton of effort to fix everything.

2026-02-04 01:04 · 2026-02-04

Not sure if this has already been answered, but will the old studio still be usable once the new one comes out? I have a lot of tracks that are halfway finished that I would like to finish someday and I really don't want all that work getting deleted. I know you can import your tracks form the old studio into the new one, but it's not a 1:1 recreation and they always sound off. Sometimes it even breaks so bad that the track becomes unrecognizable lol and I don't want to have to manually fix everything. Anyway thanks in advance

The old studio won’t remain available indefinitely once the new version is fully rolled out. However, nothing you’ve created will be lost. All of your tracks and drafts will be preserved, and you’ll be able to continue working on them in the new studio.

2026-02-04 12:43 · 2026-02-04

Right now in beta you could lose projects if they do a major update, but I see they'll make sure when the new AT comes out you'll keep all of your projects from here and be able to open then in the new studio. I'm unsure if this, current version, will be kept as a legacy version.

2026-02-06 03:12 · 2026-02-06

Ok, I have a question or questions about the new set up. I've noticed that everytime you add a new track or instrument or whatever it hooks up basically to the so called Receiver, so one of my questions is what's the need for the mixer if that's the case. Also, the way I used to do it from the old Audiotool set up is like this, I would run a graphic equalizer from the little receiver box and using a splitter, I would split my Graphic Equalizer off,...running into 2 Centroids(Master)., along with all my audio tracks and devices hooked up to each Centroid. I also usually add a Multiband Compressor to each Centroid, and turn up the Auxiliary's for each channel, which allows more compression and loudness to come thru with the right presetting for the Multiband Compressor. I've noticed it all sounds different now in the new set up. So I'm confused on a couple of things. Do we even need the mixers now, do we still need to compress things, and if so obviously there's a little bit of a different method for it all I guess, I'm not sure.

Also, I'm a big fan of Ableton's set up. Besides, me using the sickest Eq on the market FabFilter, I still like Ableton's basic little software version of it's Auto Filter, and I'm specifically a big fan of using HPF High Pass Filter for a lot of my sounds that way they don't clash with the drums and the basslines. So, I'm really having to get used to the HPF meter we use for the new AT version. Kind of confusing a bit. Idk, maybe that's just me. Also, another thing is, I'm also used to Sidechaining to my Single Band Compressors in the old Audiotool set up., So does all that kind of work the same too. Just spitballing some things that were on my mind for the new AT set up. Maybe someone can help me understand some of these things I'm pointing out. If not it's cool, I'll figure it out, but tips would be nice.

Basically, you can keep working with your system you just need to adjust it a bit. The mixer is actually quite practical, though. With a little getting used to, it has everything you need. We’ve just uploaded a video on YouTube with a sidechaining example, where you can also see a few other possibilities of the new mixer.

Ok so we still need to use the mixer vs just letting everything hook up to the receiver. Well, I suppose it just depends. I'm always sidechaining my Drum loops or my Kick Drums to my basslines, considering I'm producing Dance music/Drum and Bass. I'll experiment with it all again. I appreciate the response back. Normally yea, I'm used to using the mixers, so I'll just do like you said, and just go in and do a little more adjusting. We shall see. I love the new set up, but I'm still just used to the old version. I'll get it down. Thanks again my friends.

WE KNOW.

Here is what's happening.

When beta and the new platform are ready, all projects and published tracks make it over to the new system. No progress lost. All good.

While beta coexist with the current platform, we use an older snapshot for projects to be available in the new system. Meaning, anything between snapshot date and today is not available in beta. Something like "daily sync" is not feasible due to the complexity of changes.

You all gotta test beta with us and for us and for yourself though. Because we gotta make sure once we are on the new system we got the core pieces in a good shape.

That's why it's as important to test older projects as well as making new ones.

So far, the beta is decent. It recognized almost all of my tracks and imported them into the new studio! I'm still a little sad that some of my tracks got botched because Beta tried to replicate the song as accurately as possible with all of its new features. And I'm still waiting on the tuning to be added so that I can listen to my tracks detuned.
