Nonsense. (haha get it) Right click --> create note track

You can also copy the active pattern as it is by right click --> copy pattern to note track. With that you can make interesting beats pretty fast if you fill all the slots with percussions and use the exclude function on all of them, then randomly choose notes, copy a few pattern to the note track and start moving them in the timeline.
