Hello, when I open a mid-sized project the cpu load meter displays 'overload' even if i'm not playing or even moving the mouse.
top shows that Chromium is using 280% of cpu. I'm currently on Kubuntu 19 with Intel i5 5200U.
If someone would be willing to help me that would be awesome!

Have you tried using booster?

yes the audiotool booster improved the situation a lot. top now shows 108% cpu usage but the app is usable! thank you!!!
You can try different buffer sizes (under the booster menu) if you still experience glitches.
