Report Project Vandals

anonymous user · started 2018-12-14 19:49 · updated 2018-12-18 05:36

As a result of the live collaboration update, audiotool now has a new enemy, project vandals. The scenario is usually the same, someone makes a live project that allows everyone to join, and after hours of work, someone comes and deletes everything they have done. These people are getting away with this, and I made this board to make sure that they do not go unnoticed, and so the devs can punish these people for ideas they erase, the hours of work they make irrelevant and the creative drives they kill

Thanks you so much for making this
Idk which assholes are doing this, but it really needs to stop
Seriously? Are there actually kids on this site that are that immature to go out of their way and just delete everything?
Grow up and learn some respect. Its really not hard

I understand your grief and this definitely has to be solved (technically)!

But I don't believe that pillorying is the right method - this easily gets out of control.

They are currently trying it out. Its not a done deal. They will definitely make changes, but right now Andre is in over his head, and hes taking a break. So either someone else will step up to the plate or things are gonna stay this way until Andre recovers

i worked on a live draft the other day and someone deleted the whole thing

some kids have never learned respect

2018-12-15 22:56 · 2018-12-15

this is basically why I never used live

  1. Either all who join are set as viewers, not editors.
  2. Either plugins, note tracks, etc can be deleted only by the hoster.

But again if not the first option, idiots will find ways how to ruin someone's work.

Hi, we're aware of this happening, dont worry, plenty of reports. We're still putting plans into place to deal with this whole issue, but understand this issue has come at a bad time for us with the holidays/new year right around the corner. I'll keep you guys updated with how we plan to tackle this, how and when.
For the timebeing, if you suspect this vandalism will occur in a live project, dont open it up to anyone, and instead select people manually to collaborate with. We know this isnt the most efficient solution, but its the safest for now :)

Would it help to block mass-inventions until there's a plan and more manpower available? This might help to reduce frustration for users that are not aware of this problem.

I think that vandals tend to be just one single person joining an open session and deleting stuff. Other users waste precious time by trying to reason with the vandal and convince him to stop. Judging from the reports, it never works. I'd recommend the owner to open the collaboration window and switching the mode of the vandal to Viewer as soon as possible. Even faster is to just close the project immediately since, as far as I understand it, people can only join as long as the owner is active on the project. Those are of course emergency measures for people who didn't take the preventive ones above. And I agree with @chordofdestruction , this feature should be limited or redesigned to allow setting the mode (Editor/Viewer) for every category of invited users (not only for the explicitly typed ones in the text bar) before they join.

For the sake of comprehension I just wanted to fix my "mass-inventions" into "mass-invitations" - sorry :)

@jordynth the simple fix would be " knock on the door " notification.
I start a live sessionand whenever someone wants to join I get a notification... this user wants to join.. allow? Dismiss? + If I allow I can choose to set him as a viewer or editor.
That said If I see a person willing to join that I don't know. I can set him as a viewer or simply dismiss him joining the session.

@jordynth other problem comes in... kids are smart.. they can upload reputable person avi and change the nickname.. you go like woah... Andre wants to join my session... seconds later your stuff is gone from the draft.

Just dropping my 2 cents.. Personally I will not use this feature anyway, so whatever Andre or Martin comes up with is fine.

Can you please resist to submit your messages in mid-sentence? This is extremely hard to read and will almost certainly give you more down-votes than likes.
