I am working on my first real album since two years ago.
But I cannot update the photo.
I also tried to edit the image of one of my existing public albums and the same error accoured.
So I wonder if I am not using the correct file type or something

it determines file pixel size too, oh and sometimes certain files you download might not work depending on where you downloaded them.
also the image is jpeg
jpeg and pngs work
Try uploading several obviously invalid files and then upload the probably valid file you're trying to upload.
Probably check the console too. CTRL+SHIFT+I
