It mostly depends where you're starting from and what you want to do. Do you have a basic understanding of how music works (beats, tempo, chords, progression, scales, etc.)? For composition: I suggest working in 4/4 when you start, it's easier. I usually start a track with a chord progression (internet is full of those, just google). Your chord progression is also useful to determine what is your scale (ex: say your chord progression is Bb-Gm7-F-C7, well your scale includes G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F, which means your melody should stay around those notes). So you can usually just drag a synth (ex:pulverisateur) open the piano roll and put in your chords, each going over a bar. Congratz you have a chord progression playing. You want it to go slower, faster? Just change the tempo by double clicking the bpm (default 120).
Then it's generaly a good time to mess with the sound of your synth. As some people said in the comments, you can go in the preset of the synth and try things, you can also hit the remix button of a track having a nice sound and try to reproduce the sound of the synth you like. However i recommend messing with the buttons on the synth to get a feel of how it works, making it easier to actually create a sound as you see fit. Use the https://www.audiotool.com/board/manual to get a hold of the synths functions, dont hesitate to google when you dont get what a word mean.
Also, drag in some effect pedals to change the sound of your synth, try things and experiment. Delay, Distortion, Reverb are a good place to start as they will immediatly sound liek things you've already heard.
In all honesty Audiotool is really a website of experimenting, it can take months to quote "Be Good" but here's a few tips for people that are new.
1 - samples:
now don't get me wrong using samples is nothing bad but just don't make your track depend on them usually a good way to use samples is for
background noise, build ups, drum loops (and other instruments) and fxs really... but they can also be useful for melodies.
2 - take your time:
that may sound weird but honestly it's true you're not going to be great at the beginning (because no one is) practice your craft and find what genre suits you,
always mess around in the Audiotool App.. even if you make something dreadful you can always start fresh practice makes perfect.
3 - have fun:
well yeah just have fun really xD
@lesslanguage if you don't have adobe flash player that's probably the reason, but if you do have it then idk what it could be maybe log out and back in.
Audiotool isn't a website to upload songs like, for example, Soundcloud. It's a music production tool with its own DAW. Just click the blue "App" button on the top bar to launch it.
You can't record audio to audiotool directly. You can however record samples in the sample editor: https://probe.audiotool.com/
For that you'd need a microphone or audio interface to record your guitar.

USE PRESETS on complicated-looking devices. Also just spend some time clicking around figuring out what everything does.
