Upward/Downward Compressor

Simply put, a compressor that does normal compression, with the addition of the exact opposite; a compressor that simultaneously dynamically boosts the frequencies, creating this sort of Goldie Locks zone of compression and gain that brings the loud bits down and brings the quiet bits up.

A possible approach to this could be a separate Stompbox effect similar to the current simple compressor, but the exact opposite of it.

When you say "the exact opposite" of a compressor, that makes me think of another piece of equipment altogether, aptly named an expander. An expander essentially increases the dynamic range in the audio by turning down the quiet parts and turning up the loud ones. They are a bit less common than compressors, but it could be very useful to have one in audiotool. I don't know how hard it would be to make something like that, though.

vv yes, like OTT but just one band lol

you can do this with with i.e. two gravity devices after each other.

Set the first one at high attack and sense to peaks, compress the peaks the way you want.

Set the next one to slow attack, low to medium threshold, high compression rate and crank up the makeup gain.

This works really well with recorded instruments, at least for my usage.

I think i kinda figured it out with the multiband compressor
i was attempting to achieve something similar to OTT, where the gain can be cranked up to the point that EXTREMELY quiet sounds are gained up to audible levels.

basically trying to achieve the tail effect that OTT gives off

Mainly so its possible to process bandpasses and lowpasses to bring the highend out of them
ive tried it to no avail sadly
