Unify capitalisation styles in menus

Jordi Moragues · started 2019-03-03 22:58 · updated 2019-03-04 09:28

The app menu items show a mix of different capitalisation styles. The items of the "Project" menu show title case (all words capitalised, as in "Edit Properties..." or "Sample Upload..."), the items of the "Window" menu show sentence case (fist word capitalised, as in "Expand desktop" or "Open text chat"), the items of the "Help" menu combine capitalisation styles (as in "Tip of The Day" or "Report a bug". I'd recommend choosing one style (I recommend title case) and apply it everywhere, for visual consistency. I also recommend properly capitalising acronyms across the app and website (for example "MIDI", not "Midi").

You beat me to it! cx
Jokes aside, I completely agree. I did initially notice the capitalization of "Midi" (or lack thereof, rather) and the inconsistency did bother me. Thanks for posting this

I wish they would stick to a consistent design language throughout the whole website as well, and not just the fonts and text.

Yea I know, it might be harsh. But come on, the app looks and feels completely different from the website. All the buttons have different colors and accents. Loading indicators differ in every page. It's a bit weird.
I do like that they made the theme consistently dark though!

Lol, I agree with you, just a joke about you tossing shade...
The app, in both of its recent forms, gets a lot of special treatment, and that's typically where the focus is for the devs anyways. But, as a result, the website seems like the forgotten foster child... I think it would be great to have someone give as much love to the site as the devs give to the app. But, they have a small team, so maybe in the future

Around the time when the website's theme was changed to dark, there were many other major features added to it (music genres, new player, new track listings, several bug fixes, new board functionality, etc). I agree that the focus in AT always tends to be on functionality rather than looks (the team lacks a dedicated designer and editor), but I wouldn't say that the website is forgotten. Just one aspect is lacking behind the others.
