These features go hand in hand. Say I have 3 synths for basses: stabs, subs, and wobbles. I should be able to label them as such and group them together.
To go a little further, say I have effects chained to these devices. I should be able to group them respectively to their corresponding devices.
To go even further, this should happen automatically. When I connect an effect to a device, it should be grouped with it in the timeline, keeping things easily organized and consistent.

What I mean is that in the timeline itself, you should be able to group the devices.
Not necessarily on the desktop. For example, FL Studio has this option... less expanded though...
This also incorporates inheritance (timeline colour and position—which would be right below the parent, the source device typically being the parent)
By label, I think he means put them into a collapsible group, much like in ableton.

I thought so, but I'm not running FL on this device... let me see if I can find something similar in GarageBand
I found a better one.
Notice the Strings track which is "grouped with Bass"
Well, for one, if the process is automated, it would make it less of a hassle to organize the timeline.
Effects added to a source device could automatically be grouped with the source as the parent.
Further, if there is optional collapsibility, huge timelines could effectively be condensed, making for better workflow.
Also, reordering the timeline could then be dynamic, so that groups move together, rather than moving each individually.
