The Bassline should be able to play faster notes and currently it is impossible to do so unless the tempo is set very high. If your track is at a low tempo, it isn't possible to set notes in between themselves. Other devices have piano role capabilities which means their tempo is reliant on what times notes are played.
Tempo Knob
The bassline is difficult to control since it is reliant on tempo, and is one reason why I assume it is not used as much as it should. Since physical 303's use this, Audiotool's 303 emulation should implement this. On the tempo knob, 0 would be the original tempo, dependent on what value the main tempo is set to. Negative values, or Positive values, would be slower than, or faster than, the main tempo respectively.
Notes
The bassline only uses Patterns, while drum machines use both patterns and notes. Believe me, I do love the aspect of manually setting notes to emulate the 303, but it would be faster if the baseline was able to receive piano role notes or midi inputs. It is possible for other virtual 303 emulations to do so. The bassline only has a Audio In, Note In would go nicely for devices like the Tonematrix or Matrix too. Of course it would have dynamic glide functionality if two notes are played at once.

It is difficult to arrange a track according to how fast the baseline is, or rather the tempo that limit's the speed of the bassline. But never mind this concept, i understand why you're confused.
