Oh, I never even knew what a Soundfont was until this topic.
It would definitely be an interesting companion and/or alternative to a sampler.
Interesting request, I second it, especially for beginners looking to learn
A synth that used Soundfonts would be extremely useful and would solve the wish of many users that need a simple, General MIDI-like sound module that can produce classic sounds like pianos, guitars, etc. But as Soundfonts are sample based, AT would have to make sure that all samples included in any given Soundfont used by the device would be cleared for use and redistribution. Some excellent Soundfonts use samples with creative commons licenses, but others don't, and yet others' status is unclear. I think that the best solution would be a small but useful and high quality selection of public domain Soundfonts curated by AT.
