Sampling Feature

Perdition · started 2019-06-13 12:13 · updated 2019-06-19 14:07 · closed

I've seen/been in conversations about resampling and using the Machinest to make melodies and such. Can we have a feature where we can make a sound in the machinest and then drag that into an audiotrack as a new sample?

You mean "Project" / "Sample Upload" / "Bounce Timeline"?

No. You kno how you drag a sample from the sample library out into an audiotrack or machinest? So what if you can drag a sample into the machinest, edit it, and THEN drag it into the timeline to continue resampling

Sorry, I don't see the difference besides maybe some convenience.

It would be a huge convenience. Being able to drag the edited sample straight out of the machinest into an audio timeline

And also, it wouldnt be a "new sample" it would just be an easier way to mix the 2 methods of resampling

Maybe we should define some terms here: the Machiniste doesn't "edit" a sample it just "plays" them through an effect chain according to the selected pattern or note track. This chain depends on automations which in turn depend on the tempo automation.
If I drag such a sample out of the Machiniste, I would have no idea what effects to apply.
Also "resampling" is typically associated with sample rate conversion. I guess you mean editing, but this typically means to create an edited copy as new sample.

If you want some on-the-fly-editing of the playback, Rasselbock is your friend.

Open up one of my latest tracks, idk if u have the ability to open any track but if so, open "Frantically searching for the Unknown"

You'll see what i mean by resampling

It would be easier for everyone if you could describe your definition of re-sampling here.

I opened the track but didn't see what you mean. Maybe someone else can help.

So, i heavily edited the scream sample and made it sound completely different. And id like to make melodies in that manner and machinest would be easier to tune samples and then can drag it to audio track to edit it more

@chordofdestruction can u 'at' someone who might be able to help?

I think that he's talking about of place a sample on a "sampler" instrument, and, maybe if the sample is on C, have the possibility to create a melody using a piano roll on that "sampler" and changing the key of the note with possibilities of adding other FX and without using a machiniste to make pitch automations

EDIT: I realized i worded this backwords. What I meant was can we have a feature where we can drag a sample from the timeline into the machineste

Ah - now this starts to make sense :)
The machiniste already can do things like

  • start %
  • end %
  • pitch
It currently cannot timestretch or use non-linear time.

How would a user continue editing a sample once it has been "moved" into the machiniste?

Create melodies easier

Before we invest any time in injecting sampler functions into the Machiniste I'd rather create a real Sampler-device
