I think that it would be great to be able to have more than one opened region (note/automation/audio) in a given track at the same time. That way, for example, notes in neighboring regions could be edited in reference to each other with direct visual feedback. It could work like this:

Double-clicking a region would open it and close any other opened region(s), just like it is now.

Shift+double-click a region would open it without closing other opened regions in the same track.

Besides, the little "Close in-place editor" icon to the left of the track could also be used to open any selected regions in its corresponding track, besides only closing them. It could be renamed to just "In-place editor".

I second this, it'd be really useful in making tracks that have less redundancy and more dynamic patterns and variation.
