More ideas for selection and navigation on the interface

I know that this is very low priority, but perhaps these ideas might be useful when the time comes to discuss potential improvements of the selection and navigation tasks of the app. These ideas are taken from how my OS desktop view works. I find them very useful and they could be applied to any area with a collection of objects that can be selected; basically the desktop, time-line and open regions/clips.

  • The "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys scroll the desktop vertically up and down respectively.

  • The "Home" and "End" keys select the first and last object respectively and pan the view to frame it. It should be determined what "first" and "last" means in each context (topmost and lowermost, for example)

  • The "Up", "Down", "Left" and "Right" keys select the next object in each direction and pan the view to frame it.

  • The above implies single object selection. If the "Shift" key is used, the above expands the selection until it includes the relevant object.

  • These actions are available in any given area as soon as this area receives focus. It should be decided if an area gets focus as soon as the pointer hovers over it or after it has been clicked.

I think that this use of keyboard navigation/selection would greatly improve the workflow and be more efficient than the current pan-and-select method.
