This was mentioned awhile ago as https://www.audiotool.com/board/feature_requests-eGRGOKR3F/machiniste_loop_toggle , however I just wanted to add a bit more elaboration. A pretty powerful feature to add would be loop start and loop end knobs on the Maschiniste. This would work by taking a section of the sample and looping it while the note is pressed. (The sample would start to play as normal, but when it reaches the loop end position it’d start the loop until the note is released and it exits the loop) This would be incredibly useful in creating sampled instruments, preset snare rolls, and more.

We should move this function to a real sampler. The Machiniste doesn't even have a UI to support note lengths.
Agree that this function would be difficult to implement as described, however, consider this request (no need to alter UI, just playback functionality): https://www.audiotool.com/board/feature_requests/allow_machiniste_to_play
