Loop playback in sample panel

It's often hard to assess the groove of a loop when it's heard only once. Therefore, it would be great if samples defined as loops could be played back in loop mode in the sample panel. To avoid having to modify the existing UI, the playback mode in the sample panel could be taken from the status of the loop playback icon in the transport: if it's on, loops play in loop mode until interrupted with the next click on the sample playback button to the left of the waveform. if it's off, loops play just once like now. The logic is that if users are assessing loops, they won't likely be working on the arrangement and vice versa, so the loop playback icon can serve both purposes. Of course, this feature would apply only to loops; one-shots would always play back once just like now.

I like the idea of being able to play loops as such, but I wouldn't couple that feature with the transport loop.
Other options that come into my mind:

  1. press and hold the mouse button to play a loop endlessly
  2. double click to play in endless mode until the user clicks again (could co-exist with the above version)
  3. clicking "play" on a loop always plays that loop endlessly. The loop-icon becomes a pause/stop icon during playback and switches back to normal after clicking it a second time. Selecting another sample also stops playback.

I only suggested re-purposing the loop playback transport icon because I know that changes to the UI (for example adding a loop toggle icon to the sample panel) are difficult. I like option 3, that loops always play back endlessly by default. I think that'd be expected behaviour.

Hey uh I'm pretty sure this is the wrong board for this question but what the hay. I just started trying to figure out how to use audiotool today and have been running into some things I didn't know how to do, the most prominent of which is how to make loops. I would assume there is a way to make loops other than manually putting in the same note combination over and over, but I haven't been able to find a way. Could you guys offer any help?

Wrong board and wrong topic. You should post here next time: https://www.audiotool.com/board/newbie About your question, just drag the right edge of your note region to the right. It will loop throughout.
