Include proper metadata in downloaded tracks

Downloads from Audiotool seem to lack metadata included in the audio file. The only two tags with content that I can find, in the Ogg download at least, are Comment: "Processed by SoX" and Year, which seems to be wrong (2006 for a track published a few months ago). I think that Audiotool should include proper metadata in downloaded tracks. At the very least:

  • Artist
  • Title
  • Album (if any)
  • Genre
  • Year (make sure it's correct)
  • Comment (make it about Audiotool)
  • URL link (linking to the track's page on Audiotool)
  • Publisher (Audiotool)

Comments (6)

You could even include an URL link to the original track on the Audiotool website in the metadata (there is a tag for that), so that the file could be traced back to AT and serve as some promotion for you.

You're talking about the metadata that's shown on players like Windows Media Player or the VLC Player?

Yes, there are definitely some issues with the metadata. Now, I can only speak for my own music, but when I download an mp3 off of my profile it shows up completely blank, no comments or anything.

As far as I know, the metadata never really did work properly. You would always have to change it because it would put inaccurate information in each of the tags. That was in the last version of Audiotool, before the gray theme. Now it's just gone altogether. Anyways, I agree that it would be kind of nice if it filled the information in for you.

Yes, exactly. Also in hardware players, which read it from the file. In MP3 files, the audio metadata is called ID3 tags. Ogg has its own standard for metadata.

I don't know how technically difficult it is to do. I guess not much, if the encoding of the corresponding mix-down is passed to a background process that could take the track's parameters as arguments and include them as metadata. It would be a great way for AT to promote itself too, by using the relevant tags (URL link, publisher, etc.)

Was about to make a request on this
There's at least some form of metadata on older tracks (2+ years ago), but of course not now
Not a huge priority I'm sure, but it would be cool to get this back
