hi!
in many situations it is extremely useful to be able to see the stereo image of a track. this is often done through a goniometer, which displays lissajous figures or similar stereo-oscilloscope-type visualizations. I am imagining this could be implemented to audiotool in a few ways;
-
as a visualizer much like the spectrum visualizer in the bottom left of the playbar (in the social side of audiotool, not the studio).
-
as a visualizer much like the db meter at the top center/right of the studio (perhaps with monitoring controls/switches).
-
as a device much like the panorama or curve that would allow you to visualize and adjust aspects of the stereo image.
visualisation parameters (for any of the options) could be;
toggle draw method (dots, rays, lines),
adjust refresh rate/frequency,
use as a simple 2d oscilloscope.
for the second option, reasonable monitoring switches could be;
collapse to mono, solo mid, solo side, solo l/r, swap l/r.
for the third option, reasonable effect controls could be
adjust center balance,
adjust width (ie width boost/center boost/mono),
rotate stereo phase.
parameters that would be cool but are more of a reach would be
visual and interactive UI,
split to mid/side, merge from mid/side,
multiband stereo image manipulation (ie mono under 150hz, 150% width above 5k, etc.),
stereo enhancer via comb filtering (not haas).
hilariously huge reaches would be;
lfos (for tremolo/rotary cabinet effects),
envelope triggers,
some sort of advanced stereo spatialization or binaural generator (ie like AMBEO Orbit).
I understand that some of the effects of the 3rd option are already possible with clever use of the panorama device (as jordi has demonstrated in a few very insightful demos), but these workarounds are clunky, complicated, and extremely limited. with easier access to advanced stereo controls, I know for a fact that the quality of sound design and mixing on this website would skyrocket.
I want to particularly emphasize that any sort of implementation of a visualizer and/or monitoring effects would be extremely helpful for the more delicate aspects of mixing and mastering, and being able to see the stereo image of others' tracks would be super wonderful for individual and community growth.
thank you so much for reading this and I hope you have a beautiful day!
p.s., forgive me if this is a duplicate request—I searched through past requests and couldn't find anything similar.

lovely. i have no trouble decreasing the width on sounds, but widening them is an issue. jordi moragues way gets the job done, but it is not very resource efficient.
good job thinking of everything
would love this
