Genre Definitions

I'm not sure if I'm correct here, but I've seen that a lot of trap producers are tagging their tracks under "hardcore" when, from my understanding, that's not what the hardcore genre is.

I may be wrong but I still think that some genre definitions would helpful for people just starting in music production.

in my personally opinion, they could use google

Tbh definitions would be good. However trap producers sometimes tend to post their songs in whatever genre they feel to get it to chart so I have a feeling it will be ignored idk

we should have a way to move a song to its correct genre

That used to be a thing, idk what happened to it
I think it was for uncategorized songs tho :/

Like the community could vote on its genre, and if it passes a certain threshold, it overrides the authors selected genre?

Yeah
Pretty much

A “request genre override” button could work

I'm still in favor to this idea.

Really in support of the request genre override idea.

Or just be considerate of other users on the site.

I also think that there should be some sort of consequence for excessive mistags. Like users who put all of their trap songs in other genres.

I agree with Celsius, maybe not consequences but at least an option to flag tracks that are placed in obviously incorrect genres

The only real problem would be if a track had charted in its genre. People tend to be very protective of their tracks that tend to chart and would most likely cause a riot if they lost their chart because someone changed the genre of the song.

A bump doesn't add any value to this issue; it's just annoying.

I don't know, I guess I expect an update, maybe more discussion from other users.

Then just ask for a status. Status is: We're actively working on this.
More input isn't necessary (but still welcome) because everyone understood the problem. It's just waiting to be solved.

Okay, I'll do that next time, just thought a reminder would do something.

Or when you publish a track, have it render the track and allow it to automatically determine the genre of the track you made.

That's really hard to implement and we'd still need a way to override the machine's decision.
