Dynamic Visual Feedback for Devices

Devices such as the Maschiniste, Compressor, Gate, EQ, etc. should provide dynamic visual feedback regarding what's being done to the audio signal. Not only is this beneficial to veteran producers to see and understand what’s being done to the audio, but it’s also an extremely powerful learning tool for beginners to understand exactly how these crucial devices are important.

  • Visuals for the Maschiniste would include parameters like start and end, that visually show the portion of the sample that’s being used.

  • Visuals for the Compressor and Gate would include all of the available parameters save for gain to show how the incoming audio signal is being modified.

  • Visuals for EQ would visually display the incoming audio signal and how it’s being modified (implementation would be identical to the EQ in Probe)

As for implementation, there are several options, each with it’s own benefits and drawbacks.

  1. A coupled visual tooltip might be more plausible to implement sooner rather than later as it requires less effort than the proceeding options. This would be exactly like the current parameter tooltips but would appear below it and have a dynamic visual instead of text.

  2. Overhauling each device individually (completely redoing the interfaces and icons), of course requires a larger workload and isn’t as likely as there’s a greater focus on making Next stable rather than implementing new and shiny things. This would either be some a shiny new option, overlay, or display.

  3. A separate device, of course, a last resort, would involve adding inputs to each of the appropriate devices to interface and produce and display the corresponding visual(s).

Yes, this will be a great addition. Especially the EQ. The one in probe is so much more intuitive than the one now. It's similar to the one in FL.

I strongly second this. I've been advocating for feedback in the compressor for a while. The other elements are great as well.
