I want to keep contributing to the discussion on the topic about samples, but I'd prefer not to be notified every time someone comments on it. It's just a little tedious to have to keep pressing unfollow every time I add a comment.
I think that the first time a user comments on a topic, they should automatically follow it, but if a user intentionally unfollows a topic, it would be more natural if they stayed unfollowed until they intentionally follow the topic again.

not really, because I would like to contribute to the conversation but with the sheer number of replies on that entire topic, my feed would become unusable for useful information. There are also several different conversations on that one topic that I'm not involved in or have no interest in so I'd rather not be notified about those but that doesn't mean I don't want to comment on the topic at all.
yeah, mostly for that topic specifically but really any topic that has multiple different conversations in the comments. With my current notification settings any replies to comments I reply to show up in my feed anyways, and those are what I'm interested in, not all of the other comments on the topic.
