When the Tempo automation track in the time-line is deactivated, the tempo defaults to the last value explicitly typed in the BPM display on the transport. I think that it would be practical if the tempo defaulted to the current value at the time of deactivation (in other words, the tempo corresponding to the playback head position at the time of deactivation).

Makes sense for me too. I was just thinking about times when one wanted to temporarily evaluate different values obtained from automation at different times as fixed. The point then is not to get rid of the effects of the automation entirely, but freeze (or deactivate) it temporarily. One can type these values by hand, but it's more work.
