"Connect to..." Context Menus Should be Alternatively Ordered

Currently, there are a lot of issues with the "Connect to..." context menu as it is now. There are some bugs with how it is displayed*, however what's being discussed here focuses on the order in which items are displayed.

‍‍‍‍‍

Currently, Audiotool Next displays items in the "Connect to..." context menu in the same order as they were created in the track, which makes sense programmatically. However, it may be a good option for users to have to change that default order. Because of the fact that I'm sure not many people know the order in which they added devices to the desktop, it might be easier to order items alphabetically. This way, you can easily find which device you're looking for, especially if you rename devices frequently.

On the other hand, it may also be useful to optionally order devices dynamically, or based on the order in which their parameter(s) were last modified. This way, what you want to connect is most likely at the top of the list rather than not.

Both options can be options in the user preferences and set as the default for a user to keep things consistent across the board.

*Will be mentioned in a later bug report

I discussed this a while ago in another post, proposing a multi-column layout for when the menu gets too long to fit the screen. About the ordering, alphabetical would be totally fine with me. Personally, I'm used to name my devices and the order of creation is completely irrelevant to me.

The idea of using a multicolumn layout would be immensely helpful
Perhaps, even to pin specific devices to the top of the list optionally...
(But then again, I digress, that might be going overboard)

I'm fine with the alphabetical order, thank you. I'll create a multi-column layout request if I run into the problem again. About latest devices first, I think Apollo meant to have an app preference to set the ordering (alphabetical, last modified first), so there would be one list at any time. I'm fine with just alphabetical.
