would it also be possible to make it so you can set how long the reverb time actually is (for example: 12 seconds or 5 bars)?

that would be great!
So the louder the sound, the longer the reverb time?
Also, what do you mean by the decay of a delay-line is not finite?
Interesting, ive never heard the idea of reverb being infinite before.
I can see how a convolution reverb could be taxing in terms of performance, but i personally think the pros would outweigh the cons if you did introduce that device.
For starters, a majority of producers on this site are serious about perfecting their sound design, so naturally they'd have PCs with good processors. Adding another CPU-intensive toy to their toybox of effects will actually make life easier for them.
You might ask "what about those producers who dont have good CPUs?" They can still use the reverb we currently have, and maybe achieve a cheaper but similar effect pairing it with a delay pedal.
All that is unless it would be TOO cpu-intensive, like worse than a draft with 16 heisenbergs, 25 quantums and 40 curves, all with their spectrums turned on
:D I can't wait to see it!
