Audiotool Devices as VSTs

Apollo · started 2017-10-13 14:06 · updated 2020-12-08 19:31

People have been asking for VST support for Audiotool for ages. However, in reality, this just can't be the case, and it's been explained countless times, that Audiotool is a free software, (the heart of the idea will do its best to keep it that way) and many VSTs aren't. This won't change.

However, the idea behind Audiotool was, in a sense, democratizing production allowing those who wanted to a chance to experience the possibilities of creating music for themselves, to do so. I believe, if Audiotool were to allow all of their devices (the Heisenberg, Pulverisateur, Machiniste, all effects and tools to come) as free VSTs, more people would be willing to experiment with the devices available in and outside of the app.

This would solve the problem of users wanting to use VSTs in the app without having to compromise the goal of Audiotool as a platform. People who own purchased VSTs, more often than not, also own other DAWs on which they can use those VSTs. I, myself, have a copy of FL Studio 12, but my familiarity with Audiotool keeps me from expanding like I should. This as an implementation, would give artists the best of both worlds without compromise, and the choice of expanding and learning where the possibilities are truly endless.

Does this mean the evolution of Audiotool is Flash > HTML > C++?

Yes please, I need the heisen everywhere :D

Why C++? Im a bit of a coder but not familiar with coding stuff like this. What does C++ allow that, say, python doesnt?

2018-04-12 17:08 · 2018-04-12

Python is possibly the most basic and least used language (practically, at least) and c++ is very versatile, and widely used from OS's to CS:GO cheats. C++ is more convenient for V-ST's, too.

But what about .net languages like C#?

shit compromise imo

i would fucking love this. heisenberg is my baby, if i could use it in Fruit Loops, holy shit i would move to Fl in a freakin flash.

the fact that this is possible is amazing.

tbh i think audiotool should make a version of the AT studio you can download and import vsts in.

2020-09-22 14:11 · 2020-09-22

That would break the collaboration feature and possibly other functionality. AT's goal isn't to be an offline DAW.

2020-09-25 17:14 · 2020-09-25

there are free daws that are not browser based that have a similar collaboration feature

2020-09-25 18:59 · 2020-09-25

That's the point. They implemented collaboration differently because they're not browser based. AT Studio's would have to be re-implemented.

i know that vro, but still, you can have an offline daw while still making the focus on the online daw

What are some already-existing VST plugins like the heis/pulv for the mean time? Affordable options?

2020-11-29 18:56 · 2020-11-29

yeah, I can't wait for the day I can use a pulv in Ableton

idea: make an offline daw whwere you can import and export vsts, while still being able to pub tracks made in it to the at site

That poses people who can only use browser AT at a major disadvantage to others though. Plus, making an offline version of the DAW with that kind of functionality removes the charm of stock Audiotool. It's comforting to know you have the ability to make the same kind of stuff that the most respected AT producers make, since they have the same tools at their disposal that you do, save for perhaps some self-recorded samples and etc.

no it doesn't. it would be just like normal AT but offline. plus you could also make stuff with offline AT as well.

It does pose a disadvantage if you can use exterior VSTs is what I'm saying. It just doesn't seem like worth the devs' time to recreate the entirety of AT for a desktop version, especially because producers would probably just use exterior VSTs over the bundled devices anyway

vvv nah i'm not paying $60 dollars for a daw. i'll probably just pirate it

and sydney, it would be more of a great answer than importing at daws to other daws.

you can literally use it for free. it's like winrar. it'll just keep bothering you to buy it.
