Many users on audiotool follow each other. But if you are following a user, they might manage to put over 100 notifications per day. This will prevent you from seeing another user publishing a song in notifications. To resolve this problem, users would be able to friend request another user, instead of following each other. Now users would be able to invite online users, or friends, without them blowing up the notifications.

There is always a notification at the top of all notifications which says - there is one new track by a user that you follow.
