Okay so I think this is gonna be controversial (How can we make it fair for everyone, artist favoritism?, etc.), but i'm tired of the 30 second limit. As seamless as I try to make the samples, there's ALWAYS clicking when I try to put them together in the studio. There're ways to fix this, but it's annoying and inefficient to have to spend that extra effort trying to make things work. I know that the limit is there to protect against uploading full songs from external sources, copyrighted or not, so I came up with the following ideas:
1) Remove the limit for Patrons only - Not sure how much even every individual patron can be trusted
2) Remove the limit manually for trusted artists - Seems to be the safest way, but I don't want there to be a favoritism problem or anything like that
3) Remove the limit after a certain time period of account creation, and double down on sample moderation - Probably the most annoying idea because it'd gradually increase the workload for the devs and/or mods
4) Do nothing - i'll start crying VERY loudly, just making an utter fool of myself

#1 would probably be the better idea out of the bunch. Not only would it be another benefit for Patrons, it would also become another incentive to become a Patron.
I'm all for #1 or #2, I also haven't been able to use the live recording feature for a while either due to serious artifacting with either of my soundcards.
I get by with the 30 second limit, but I'm certain that it's only a minor hindrance for those who wish to upload undesirable content anyways. I would think that with either some form of vetting, or as a patreon bonus, having a less retrictive limit wouldn't be an issue.
i think number 2 would be the best option. or a way to upload a sample that deletes itself after the song is published. the final rendered audio will contain the sample, but it will not be on the database anymore and when you open to remix the draft, the sample is no longer present. if i recall correctly i think the first copyright dark age was due to the fact that audiotool was hosting copyrighted samples on their library, not because they were used in songs. for example, royalty free stuff.
but i could be wrong ™
BUMP
Perhaps there could be a track publish time limit if you go over the thirty seconds. You would have to wait a week after the last +30 second sample upload to publish that track. Sure, it might be annoying, but would be better than what we have now. The downside to this is that it's easily exploitable if a thief is just willing to wait a week.
record the shit u do then put in the file into the online sampler. its gonna to have the time above the sample audio use the zoom thing to zoom to 30 secs then click at where the 30 sec mark is and drag to the end of the track and hit ctrl x so ur just left with the first 30 secs. now upload that n leave the online sampler tab open. now that its uploaded go back to the online sampler and click and drag on the whole sample and this time hit backspace now there should be nothing but a line where the audio goes. u dont even need to click anything just hit ctrl v and the shit u ctrl x'ed away before will come back now do this till u can get the whole thing uploaded and bam u can upload as long as u want.
Yeah, sample upload desparately needs a redesign. It's worth saying though that longer samples not only adds to the risk of infringement but will also take up more server space, inevitably costing AT more money. Honestly, I'd say a combination of all 3 is the best. Established artists who follow the rules, have been here for a certain amount of time, and support on patreon should have their restrictions loosened. Hell, it may also even help the community to lighten up a bit too, since there would be an actual incentive to follow the guidelines and produce high quality original work.
As for favoritism? I mean, it's a privilege and huge responsibility to be able to upload longer samples. If anyone were to put folks on blast for 'favoritism', that would just reveal that they don't quite grasp the delicate balance that AT has to walk with the sample library, and also that they're resistant to being patient and following rules. Being a patron could also even be optional, it just needs to be made obvious that you have to earn that privilege.
OR ALSO, there could be some way you can request longer upload privileges, like a form or something. In the form, you'd explain why it would be beneficial for you/why 30 seconds is too short for your purposes and consent to sign a liability waiver. Someone/something could then review your assets and confirm you've uploaded only your own creations and/or copyright-free material.
That would be a lot of work for the mods, though
one thing about the samples, its a pain(nearly impossible) to edit a sample that is off the time sig. or something.
maybe one of u guys could help me. my problem is that the song no matter how hard ai edit it, wont line up with my drums.
the reason its 30 secs is because of copyright protection reasons.
most people use copyrighted samples, and in turn AT is not trying to get sued by Nintendo or wth else ur using.
4 has happend to many times 😔
What if there was an online waiver that you had to digitally sign in order to upload past 30 seconds?
lol
What?
