A filter with "Special" filters

Miriad · started 2018-11-06 17:28 · updated 2018-11-16 14:33

Hi, Id like to suggest the addition of a standalone Filter that has rather complex filter types like Phasers, Allpasses, Flangers, And (maybe) Combs. (mostly flanger and phaser)

I think this would really benefit next since the current phaser and flanger are missing the ability to stay in one phase
unless the phaser is set to 300hz min and 300hz max which can make it hard to control your sound in detail, maybe something similar to abletons phaser.

If there are any questions then just let me know

Not a bad idea tbh, I wanna know @andremichelle and the other devs' thoughts

Ive suggested something similar to this before but it wasn't really practical since they would have to rework an entire plugin, i suggested that the phaser rate could be able to be reduced to 0hz but they would have to rewrite the way the phaser works completely..
Hopefully this is a better idea

A new project instead of rewiring and redoing everything inside an already-existing effect. Definitely something I can see them doing, if they want to. I wonder what kind of projects they're working on now tbh

Yes, please add Allpasses. I was looking all over for those

You can glue all kinds of devices together, but there will be always one more device missing :)

I'd rather solve this by externally providing the oscillators which afaik isn't (easily) possible with the current software design.

What's their use besides DIY-Phaser?

I have absolutely no idea what either of them do, I was just replicating a Serum tutorial on a heisenberg and I got stuck when the guy said "an allpasses filter with a small bit of unison"
So yeah
Pretty pathetic
But it turns out an allpasses filter doesn't exist on audiotool :/

Not as a standalone device, but it's certainly implemented in the Phaser (don't know the actual implementation, though).

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phaser_(effect)#Structure

So if you only want to have the All-Pass' output to be merged with the original sound, you can simply use a Phaser unless you have more specific requirements.

@chordofdestruction ive already stated that they will not add to the current phaser
they would have to rework a whole lotta shit

idk what this means

also what, allpass isn't a phaser?
its more similar to a comb filter or a flanger
its more like the reverb filter on serum tbh

Im refering to the serum type of allpass
not the allpass used in phasers

Yeah, I'm referring to the Serum edition

Not sure how to explain how it works due to it being so complex

I don't know Serum. I was referring to a normal all-pass-filter which is typically a functional part of a phaser. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-pass_filter

On its own it doesn't change the sound audibly (in theory) but changes the phases of the frequencies which can be used in combination with other devices to allow for audible interferences.

AFAIK each device has its own oscillator in AT to control the effect's phase (controlled by the speed knob). Unless each of those oscillators are perfectly aligned the effects will eventually run out of sync.
That's why I suggested to use an external oscillator to control the effect devices in sync.
Sorry, it's a bit hard to describe in text.
